Catharine Fergus Garber is the founding partner of Fergus Garber Young Architects (Fergus Garber Group became Fergus Garber Young Architects in January of 2011). She established Fergus Garber Group in Chicago in 1987 and relocated the firm to Palo Alto in 1997. She has extensive experience designing new primary and vacation homes nationwide. She is a licensed architect and is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB), Build It Green, and the US Green Building Council (USGBC). Catharine's undergraduate degree is in Art History from Middlebury College; her Masters in Architecture is from the University of Illinois, Chicago campus. When not at FGG Catharine loves spending her time outdoors – playing tennis, walking, hiking, biking, or skiing, with friends and family. She also tries her best to keep track of her two boys, Reed and Corwin.
Daniel Garber is a partner at Fergus Garber Young Architects (Fergus Garber Group became Fergus Garber Young Architects in January of 2011). Before joining his wife in her architectural practice (Fergus Garber Group) in 2002, Dan was a Partner in Relign Consulting and before that a vice president at Jones Lang LaSalle, both real estate services and consulting companies. Mr. Garber started his professional life at Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (Chicago) a large international architectural engineering company. He is a licensed Architect and a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB), US Green Building Council (USGBC), and the American Planning Association (APA). Dan received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from Carnegie Mellon University, where he received a PPG traveling scholarship. Dan is the past Chair and a current commissioner of the Palo Alto Planning and Transportation Commission, a trustee of TheatreWorks Repertory Theatre in Mountain View, and a former President of the Friends of the Palo Alto Junior Museum & Zoo. With what time is left, Dan enjoys playing tennis, skiing, hanging with his two boys who are now less interested in hanging out with him, and napping.
Heather Young is a partner of Fergus Garber Young Architects. Prior to becoming a partner, she had collaborated with Fergus Garber Group continually since 2004 (Fergus Garber Group became Fergus Garber Young Architects in January of 2011). Heather heads up FGY’s commercial projects including the Palo Alto University Club renovation and addition, General Motors Silicon Valley Out Post Office (vehicle technology and innovation) office build-out, Funny or Die office build-out (a web based video company), and the mSpot office build-out (a cell phone media convergence company). She is a LEED 2.0 Accredited Professional and member of the Northern California Chapter of the US Green Building Council where she is a former Steering Committee member. In addition to her commercial focus, she also leads some of the firms residential projects that have larger sustainability goals including the LEED Platinum registered Bryant Street Residence.
Heather started out her professional career with Cesar Pelli & Associates in New Haven, Connecticut where she was an Associate working on the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur and the Gonda Building at the Mayo Clinic. She received her Bachelor of Architecture from Rice University and her Master of Architecture from Yale University. She also represents the AIA (American Institute of Architects) as a Commissioner for the CAB (California Architects Board) and NAAB (National Architects Accreditation Board). When not at her desk looking for green solutions or in the field working with contractors, Heather can be found playing basketball or watching a classic film (tip: if opposing Heather in Trivial Pursuit, choose a different category).
Craig is a senior project architect, and joined FGY in January 2007, after working for another Palo Alto architecture firm for over 14 years. He has over 20 years of custom residential architecture experience and brings enormous first hand field experience to the firm having worked with many construction companies. He is in charge of the firm's quality control program for residential projects. As a senior project architect Craig has worked on renovation, new and historic projects. Craig received his architectural degree from the Campbell School of Architecture at the University of Virginia - Thomas Jefferson's "Academical Village" [sic].
Craig is active civically, currently serving as an invited member of the Palo Alto Development Customer Advisory Group, focused on consolidating and simplifying the planning and permitting process in Palo Alto. In the past, he served as founding board member and mentor of the San Francisco Bay Area ACE Mentor Program, a non-profit designed to educate high school students about Architecture, Construction and Engineering, and subsequently offer scholarships to students who go on to study a construction related field.
Craig enjoys trouping his wife and 10 year old son to myriad Stanford sporting events. He camps, fly-fishes and attempts to play golf when he can find the spare time. Most extra time is spent with his son, where he is either trying to out-build his son's Lego constructions, or figuring out what Minecraft is, and how he can get his son play it less. Craig aspires to also get his private pilot's license in his spare time, but hasn't yet found said spare time.
Craig has given up looking for an affordable two bedroom, two bath house in Los Altos, and is now concentrating his efforts on an easier task – developing a temporal space / time transformer to alter the universal continuum around Los Altos, thus being able to occupy a three bedroom, two bath house simultaneously with some other unsuspecting family without fear of being incarcerated.
Danielle Wyss joined FGY in 2007 after working for architectural firms in Nevada, Washington, Colorado, and Northern California and is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). She began her architectural career at 17 with a five-year internship while also studying to receive her architectural degree in 2001 from the University of Washington in Seattle. She was awarded the top scholarship to study abroad in Rome, Italy under Dave Miller of the Miller|Hull Partnership and Francis D. K. Ching. She also studied abroad in Havana, Cuba and Cuernavaca, Mexico under Steve Badanes of Jersey Devil and Sergio Palleroni with the design-build endeavor called The BaSiC Initiative constructing an agricultural social club in Havana and a children's library/school in Cuernavaca to support underdeveloped communities.
In 2004 Danielle led a design team in the Cradle to Cradle sustainable design competition whose entry won a Special Recognition Award for a Project of Outstanding Merit. In 2008 Danielle was invited to give a lecture on sustainable design practices to the inaugural class of Singularity University housed in the NASA Research Park at Moffat Field.
Danielle has worked on commercial, casino, resort, restaurant, and residential projects and has spent her time with FGY focusing on custom residential projects. She is currently in the examination process to receive her architectural license for the state of California. When not at FGY Danielle enjoys downhill skiing, road cycling, sailing, picnicking, writing and travel.
Luke Morton is FGY's sustainability manager and graduated from Stanford University with a B.Sc. in Earth Systems and an M.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering. During his studies, he worked for a number of building energy organizations. At the U.S. Green Building Council in Washington DC, he supported the creation of a carbon-based standard that will be incorporated into the LEED criteria. At the Rocky Mountain Institute in Boulder, CO, he worked on evaluating the effectiveness of Automated Demand Response Systems ("smart" thermostats). At Southface Energy Institute, in Atlanta, GA, Luke inspected over 500 new single-family houses as a HERS Rater for ENERGY STAR and EarthCraft House certifications. With Viron Energy Services in Oakland, CA, Luke led the energy audit of the entire Community College District of San Mateo, including College of San Mateo, Cañada College, and Skyline College. In his free time, Luke enjoys baking desserts in his solar oven for FGY's Tuesday lunches, playing ukulele in a local bluegrass band and giving lectures on building science to hapless Stanford undergrads.
Megan Jones joined FGY after earning her Bachelor of Architecture degree with honors from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. Through an exchange program at Cal Poly, she worked as an intern with David Baker + Partners Architects in San Francisco, focusing on affordable mixed-use housing. She is currently working her way through the IDP process to begin the examination process to receive her architectural license. Outside of architecture, she can be found hiking, running, biking, reading, or painting. Megan and her fiancé love the outdoors and enjoy visiting their families in Wyoming for family reunions, hiking trips, camping expeditions and hunting.
Lauren Goldman (not pictured) joined FGY after working with MK Think in San Francisco. Lauren has worked for architectural firms in New York City and San Francisco and is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). She studied Art History at the University of Michigan and received her Masters in Architecture at the University of California Berkeley campus. She is currently in the examination process to receive her architectural license for the state of California. She and her husband live in San Francisco.They take full advantage of what the Bay Area has to offer, biking across the Golden Gate Bridge for long rides in Marin, running in the Presidio or driving up to Tahoe to to share their love for down hill skiing. Lauren will find any excuse to be active outdoors with her husband or friends, instead of studying for her California Licensing Exam.
Clinton Prior joined FGY after working for Hammond Beeby Rupert Ainge Architects in Chicago working on institutional and cultural projects. He graduated from Yale University in 2007 with a Masters Degree in Architecture and was awarded the schools Drawing Prize. During his time at Yale he coordinated, taught and built three houses as part of the schools Building Project for low income housing. He is a LEED Accredited Professional and is currently in the examination process to receive his license in the great state of California. Very happy to have relocated from Chicago, Clinton enjoys surfing, swimming, cycling, and stopping to take it all in (he's Australian). He looks forward to fulfilling his role as an architect through teaching at some point.
Prashilla is a qualified UK Chartered Architect who is a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). Prior to relocating to the Bay Area she worked for Purcell Miller Tritton, specializing in historic building conservation and regeneration. Her work included projects in several prestigious buildings including the British Museum, Kew Palace and Oxford University. She earned a Diploma in Architecture and an MSc in Sustainable Building Performance and Design in 2010, for which she achieved a distinction. In her spare time Prashilla enjoys exploring the the Bay Area with her husband and is amazed that it never seems to rain much.
Tim knocked on our door to defrost back in the Bay Area after having spent 7 years in his wife's hometown of Stockholm, Sweden. He holds a 5-year Bachelor's of Architecture and Masters degree from Montana State University in Bozeman. Raised in Menlo Park, Tim brings 14-years of high-end residential, multi-family residential and commercial knowledge to FGY. Previously he worked for RITS Arkitekter AB in Stockholm and before that at The Architectural Machine in Redwood City, CA. In his free time he enjoys almost anything outdoors, especially if there is a board strapped to his feet. He is a licensed windsurfing instructor, an avid surfer, skier, snowboarder and skateboarder and lives with his wife and two kids in Menlo Park.
Clare Malone Prichard is a senior project architect who joined FGY in 2012 after working for many years at Stoecker and Northway Architects Inc. on both commercial and custom residential projects. She is a member and current chair of Palo Alto's Architectural Review Board (ARB), and serves as a judge for Acterra's Business Environmental Awards in the Sustainable Built Environment category. She is a member of the AIA and is a LEED BD+C accredited professional. Born in Australia to British expatriate parents, Clare arrived in Palo Alto at the age of five. After graduating from Paly, she received her degree in architecture from U.C. Berkeley. In the evenings, she enjoys listening to vinyl records played on vintage vacuum tube stereo equipment with her husband and their pet pigeons (who are particularly fond of disco). Most weekends you can find her gardening, swing dancing, bicycling, motorcycling, cruising in or wrenching on a '60's muscle car, or searching for that perfect mid-century modern accessory.
Mariana Pabon is FGY's Graphics manager. She has 18 years of environmental graphic, signage, corporate identity and marketing collateral experience and has created solutions for a wide variety of companies including Levi's, DreamWorks, Oracle, Restoration Hardware and Apple. Born and raised in Argentina, Mariana has been a part of the San Francisco Design community for 12 years. She holds a BFA in Graphic Design from the University of Buenos Aires and a Computer Graphics degree from UCLA. Other than spinning she spends her spare time cultivating a taste for the best chocolates and teas she can find.
Allison Pell completed her Bachelor of Architecture degree at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. In her fourth year she studied abroad in the city of Copenhagen, Denmark an experience that galvanized her passion for design. After graduation, she moved to the Bay Area and spent a year working in the contract furniture industry before happily reuniting with architecture at FGY. Allison is exploring the Peninsula's architecture by bike, designing furniture for her apartment, and experimenting with new recipes such as possibly a Moroccan tagine or maybe a spicy Thai lobster soup.
Elyssa Estrada joined the FGY team after graduating from California State Polytechnic University of Pomona where she earned her Bachelor of Architecture Degree with high honors. Elyssa previously worked as an intern throughout her college years for a local firm near campus that focused on elementary schools. Elyssa is working to fulfill all the components of the IDP process, beginning the examination process to become a licensed architect. Outside architecture, Elyssa is a passionate dancer with Tupua, a Tahitian dance group from Orange County. The move to San Francisco has triggered new interests including yoga and searching out the niche foodie joints and gems that the City is so well known for.
Jerrod Nicholls joined FGY after working 6+ years with James Newhall Smith Architect, Inc. in Pacific Grove, CA where he worked on high end residential projects in the Monterey Bay area. Jerrod graduated from the University of Arizona in May 2012 with a Bachelor Degree in Architecture where he was nominated for AIA Design Excellence for his thesis project. He is currently working his way through the IDP process and prepping for examinations to receive both his architectural license and LEED accreditation. During his spare time, he enjoys traveling and hiking with his girlfriend and he has a passion for drawing and sports.
Grace Mariucci joined FGY after graduating from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Architecture and Minor in Philosophy. While at Notre Dame, Grace focused on classical and traditional design, spending her third year in Rome, Italy. During her final year of study, she visited Havana, Cuba for a semester focused on Cuban architecture. Previous to FGY, Grace interned at the Prince's Foundation for Building Community in London, England, where she worked with the design team to create sustainable urbanism for communities. From her experiences abroad, Grace has an interest in history and culture and how such factors influence the built environment. She loves living in the Bay Area and enjoys the local hiking, farmers' markets, and scenic landscapes.
Sudeshna Sukla joined FGY after relocating from Virginia in 2013, bringing 5+ years of experience in mixed use, residential, high end office interiors for government and commercial projects in the D.C. Metropolitan Area. She is passionate about the community, and has contributed to CANstruction (annual can drive competition) and the World War II memorial design in downtown Syracuse, NY. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Interior Design from Syracuse University, and her Master of Architecture from Morgan State University.
Looking forward to be a registered architect in California, Sudeshna is studying for the Architectural Registration Exams and completing her Internship Development Program hours. In her free time, Sudeshna loves to travel, cheer for the Syracuse Orange with her fellow Bay Area alumni friends, and learn Swedish (her husband's native language).
Kim Butler joined FGY Architects in 2013 after working in Boston for 5 years where she completed her Master's of Architecture from Boston Architectural College. Her undergraduate degree is a Bachelor's in Computer Music from University of California San Diego. While in architecture school she served as a Student Ambassador mentoring new students, and led a team of designers in a design competition for a Net Zero house in Cape Cod. Happy to be back home in sunny California, Kim enjoys hiking, rock climbing, traveling, going to concerts, and renovating furniture.
Kathleen Lilly joined FGY in 2013 after relocating from New York City. She brings with her over six years of experience in retail, small commercial, interiors, and residential architecture. While working at Ralph Lauren in NYC she had occasion to manage projects all over the world, including Russia, Europe, and Latin America. While there, she increased her focus and expertise in millwork and detailing, an interest that was kindled in her furniture-making classes in graduate school. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Historic Preservation from Mary Washington College and her Master of Architecture from Clemson University. In her spare time, Kathleen enjoys spending time with her family and exploring the Bay area.
